Marriage Policy

Excerpt from "A Song of Faith"

-A Statement of Faith of The United Church of Canada, 2006:

"The fullness of life includesmoments of unexpected inspiration and courage lived out, experiences of beauty, truth, and goodness, blessings of seeds and harvest, friendship and family, intellect and sexuality, the reconciliation of persons through justiceand communities living in righteousness, and the articulation of meaning."

At Crossroads, we consider a wedding as both a sacred covenant with God, and a community celebration. We welcome couples of any faith background, and any sexual orientation. If you are meant to be together, we are happy to seek God's blessing upon you. If you are interested in being married at Trinity or St. James', or in having our minister marry you at another location, please contact our minister, the Rev. Helene Burns, as soon as possible, to begin this conversation. Once your marriage is approved by Crossroads, you may book the church, Trinity or St. James'. The cost for the use of the church,  $75, includes the rehearsal, the wedding service, and photography time, if needed.

We are happy to provide an organist for your service, at a cost of $75. It is our custom for the minister to receive an honorarium.

And may God richly bless your union.

Baptism Policy

Excerpt from "A Song of Faith" -A Statement of Faith of The United Church of Canada, 2006:

"Before conscious thought or action on our part,we are born into the brokenness of this world.  Before conscious thought or action on our part, we are surrounded by God's redeeming love.  Baptism by water in the name of the Holy Trinity is the means by which we are received, at any age, into the covenanted community of the church.  It is the ritual that signifies our rebirth in faith and cleansing by the power of God.  Baptism signifies the nurturing, sustaining, and transforming power of God's love and our grateful response to that grace."

Would you like yourself or your child to be received into this community of faith? In The United Church of Canada, we believe baptism to be a sign of GRACE, our public affirmation that God is already at work in this life. We believe baptism to be a COVENANT, a bond created by the promises of God, the person (or their parents/guardians), and the community of faith, together to encourage and support their life of faith. We believe baptism to be a sign of BELONGING, a growing together in community with the whole Christian family, in all its diversity. We believe baptism, especially infant baptism, to be a RITE OF PASSAGE, celebrating the wonder of birth, giving thanks for life, and asking God's guidance in the high calling of parenting. In keeping with this understanding, at Crossroads baptism is a sacrament almost always celebrated during our public worship service. It is available to those persons who profess a Christian Faith, in any branch of the church, and to their children.

It you are interested in baptism, or have any questions, please contact our minister, Rev. Helene Burns.

Funeral Policy

If you have recently suffered the loss of someone you love, may God's love provide a shelter for your grief.

Excerpt from "A Song of Faith"

-A Statement of Faith of The United Church of Canada, 2006:

"We place our hope in God.

We sing of a life beyond life

and a future good beyond imagining:

a new heaven and a new earth,

the end of sorrow, pain, and tears,

Christ's return and life with God,

the making new of all things."

At Crossroads, our church and our minister are available to absolutely anybody who would like us to conduct a funeral. There is no set fee for either the use of the sanctuary, nor for the minister. An honorarium is up to the discretion of the family.

For further information, please contact our minister, Rev. Helene Burns.
