Excerpt from "A Song of Faith" - A Statement of Faith of the United Church of Canada, 2006 "Before conscious thought or action on our part, we are born into the brokenness of this world. Before conscious thought or action on our part, we are surrounded by God's redeeming love. Baptism by water in the name of the Holy Trinity is the means by which we are received, at any age, into the covenanted community of the church. It is the ritual that signifies our rebirth in faith and cleansing by the power of God. Baptism signifies the nurturing, sustaining, and transforming power of God's love and our grateful response to that grace." Would you like yourself or your child to received into this community of faith?
In The United Church of Canada, we believe baptism to be a sign of GRACE, our public affirmation that God is already at work in this life.
We believe baptism to be a COVENANT, a bond created by the promises of God, the person (or their parents/guardians), and the community of faith, together to encourage and support their life of faith.
We believe baptism to be a sign of BELONGING, a growing together in community with the whole Christian family, in all its diversity.
We believe baptism, especially infant baptism, to be a RITE OF PASSAGE, celebrating the wonder of birth, giving thanks for life, and asking God's guidance in the high calling of parenting.
In keeping with this understanding, at Crossroads baptism is a sacrament almost always celebrated during our public worship service. It is available to those persons who profess a Christian Faith, in any branch of the church, and to their children.
If you are interested in baptism, or have any questions, please contact our minister, Rev. Jane Johnson |
