Our Churches

St. James United Church

More St James is growing faith community that has about 20-25 regular families in attendance. It has a dedicated group of volunteers who work together on a variety of projects. St. James has a volunteer music worship leader, who is an accompanist and choir director. The congregation has a tradition of supporting a strong musical ministry. We have a lively choir, which contributes greatly to regular worship, as well as providing music for special occasions. On special occasions, the Men of Crossroads perform bringing delight and pride to our church family.

The kitchen at St. James is the heart of many food related activities. Very successful church suppers continue to be served from the church kitchen. Success is based on the financial contributions as well as the camaraderie that occurs while working together for a common purpose. The kitchen is the centre of pie baking twice a year when members of the UCW and members of the congregation come together to bake pies as a fundraiser. Imagine making about 100 pies over a 2-day period. This is really a testament to the old saying that “many hands make light work”.

The St. James Sunday School is a small but vibrant group of young people. Sunday School takes place during the last 45 minutes of the church service, with the exception of a few times a year when there is an intergenerational service. We embrace the participation of children in the receiving of the Sacraments so the Sunday School students return to the church sanctuary to partake in communion. Church life is further enhanced when children participate in other parts of the service, reading the scriptures, greeting at the door, and performing at a number of special events like the Christmas concert and Easter service, for example.

Though a small congregation, St James reaches out to our community to serve others. One way we do this is through our monthly contribution to the Food Bank. The first Sunday of each month is Food Bank day when members of the congregation bring an item to be placed in a box at the back of the church. During the Christmas season, we choose an organization to support and additional donation of gifts, clothing and toys are collected for distribution to those less fortunate than us.

The St. James UCW is a steady and active group of women who give their time and talents with no requests in return. Their hard work and consistency has allowed us the opportunity to improve upon our sanctuary for things like new flooring, new chairs for our suppers and much more.

The basement hall of the church is also available for rent for community organizations. Maintenance and upkeep work that is necessary to maintain the building both inside and out are frequently done by congregational members who willingly volunteer their time to keep the sanctuary clean, mow the grass and tend the gardens.

Trinity United Church

Trinity United is centred in the heart of the Timberlea community. We are a thriving congregation of approximately 89 families and this number is growing as our community grows around us. We embrace our faith with teachings taken from the Bible. With ease our Minister is able to relate these teachings with experiences from our every day lives. Our Choir, with guidance from our Organist, also contributes to the teachings of that day through hymn.

We provide Sunday school classes each week for ages 1-13 years old. These classes are run by volunteers under the direction of our Sunday School Superintendent who provides a structured curriculum approved by our Worship Committee. We celebrate Jesus’ birth, teachings, and resurrection in the same manner as you would expect from a united congregation---with devotion, happiness, thankfulness, love, song, and respect in regards to God and with one another.

We have a Ways and Means Committee who, with support from our congregation’s willingness to volunteer, not only helps our Council’s financial commitments, but provides a positive venue for congregational/community social time.

Our UCW Group consists of a unique group of women. They meet every third Wednesday evening of each month.  Their desire and willingness to help out where they can in relation to the church and community’s needs is beyond words. They are a joy to be around and consider each other as sisters and have formed a life long bond that extends outside of Church life.

We have a dedicated Outreach Team whose presence is known throughout our community’s charitable organizations as a committee ready and willing to lend a helping hand when in need.

Please take a moment now to browse our website or, better yet, come to one of our services to get to know us. You gain so much more than a Sunday service. At Trinity United our regular service is Sunday mornings from 11am to 12pm. All denominations are welcomed to join us in our call to worship.
